Dr. Michael André Turnbull, "Dr. Mike"

Dr. Michael André Turnbull, affectionately known as Dr. Mike, embodies the spirit of servant leadership. Raised in Cane Garden Bay, Tortola, BVI, by Reverend Doctor Melvin A. Turnbull and Minister Marion M. Turnbull—lifelong leaders of the Cane Garden Bay Baptist Church—Dr. Mike was instilled with the values of kindness, service, and community engagement from an early age.

His passion for leadership and community service took root at just sixteen when he founded Project Lion Heart, a non-profit dedicated to providing Christmas gifts for at-risk children. This early experience solidified his commitment to uplifting others and ignited his ambition to become a doctor. He pursued his education meticulously, starting with the Advanced General Science Programme at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College before earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Howard University.

While pursuing his Master of Divinity at Howard University School of Divinity, Dr. Mike met Shondrea Nicole Horton, marrying her in 2007. Their partnership became a foundation for his growth as a leader. He went on to earn his Doctor of Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University, becoming a licensed psychologist and applying his psychological expertise to leadership and community service.

Since returning home in 2015, Dr. Mike has dedicated himself to building a thriving community through servant leadership. As Executive Pastor at CGBBC, he leads with a heart for the people, facilitating spiritual growth and community initiatives.

With over 20 years of diverse experience in research, social work, psychotherapy, business strategy, and pastoral leadership, Dr. Mike has successfully led teams by fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration. He believes that effective organisations emerge from a synergy of capable human resources and informed decision-making, and he applies this philosophy across all his endeavors.

Dr. Mike remains dedicated to making a positive impact through various initiatives, from organising Hope Festival concerts to leading youth summer camps. After the devastation of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017, he played a pivotal role in the church’s rebuilding efforts, demonstrating resilience and commitment to his community.

With his loving wife and three children by his side, Dr. Mike looks forward to furthering his leadership at CGBBC and beyond. He is committed to: Gather. Grow. Give. Dr. Mike exemplifies the power of servant leadership in action.

SHIFT is a concept that signifies more than just change; it's a call to realign our focus and step boldly into the future God has prepared for us.

In Scripture, we see God urging His people to embrace transformation. The prophet Isaiah emphasized that without change, we risk losing our direction and essence. As we look toward 2025, let’s open our hearts to the shifts God is prompting within us.

Let us adjust our focus from daily concerns to the eternal purposes God has for us. Instead of seeing challenges as obstacles, let’s view them as opportunities for His light to shine. A positive mindset creates an environment for miracles.

This year, let’s commit to building a community that reflects Christ’s love. Let’s deepen our connections, support one another, and walk alongside each other in our spiritual journeys, creating an environment where everyone feels valued.

3. A Shift in Action
Faith requires action. Now is our time to move from being spectators to engaged participants in God’s work. Whether through volunteering, outreach, or simply being there for one another, every action makes a difference.

4. A Shift toward Possibilities
2025 holds limitless possibilities, and we must remember that God’s promises are always true. Engage with His Word and seek His guidance as we navigate this journey together. We are a hopeful people, equipped to reach for the extraordinary.
